One Thing from Earth

One Thing from Earth

Verse 1
One thing from earth the Savior took
To all the realm above.
The angels gathered to behold
The answer to God’s love.
No diadem? No golden crown?
No scepter Christ did wield,
But there instead were cruel scars,
To angel eyes unveiled.

Chorus
One thing from earth that’s seen in heav’n?
The nail scars in His hands!
No other means of sins forgivin,
The nails scars in His hands!
Can you discard God’s Son so marred?
For you the nails were driv’n.

Verse 2
One thing from earth the Savior took,
Ascended in the sky;
The trophies of His finished work,
‘T was “once for all to die.”
The marks of wicked, guilty men
Will always Christ deface,
Point out our own depravity,
And all God’s wondrous grace!

Verse 3
A doubting Thomas saw the wounds
In anguish and disgrace.
No greater love hath any man,
To take the sinner’s place!
“My Lord and God! “with him I cry,
Amazed at love so marred.
Come guilty, cursed by God to die,
To “kiss the Son,” nail scarred.

Psalm 2:12
Isaiah 52:14

I. More marred Christ was than any man,
Accomplishing salvation’s plan.

II. Can you discard God’s Son so marred? Which ending?
Come, kiss the wounds love-giv’n.
