O who will pastor the pastor’s wife?
The poor dear, she needs it – she’s “sentenced for life.”
The house must be perfect, immaculate she,
Living his sermons, she must regularly.
While he nourishes and cherishes the erring flock,
She abideth alone, around the clock.
While he tells how the children should be beat with the rod
She lives it out oft, unseen save to God.
While he in the pulpit shines alone,
She hears the brunt of his tempers at home.
While he teaches the truth of the Twenty-Third Psalm
She follows the Shepherd; and He keeps her calm.
So you help pastor the pastor’s wife –
The poor dear, she needs it, you bet your life!
