In A Garden Close by Calvary

In A Garden Close by Calvary

Verse 1
“Come, see the place the Lord did lie!”
Thy blessed Lord so pure and still,
Amid the other garden flow’rs
In very sight of Calvary’s hill.
“The fragrance of His knowledge” will
Make doubly dear life’s darkest hour;
And thou wilt learn in realms above
The glories of God’s fairest Flow’rs!

Chorus
In a garden close by Calvary,
In a lower rich and rare,
Reposed the fairest Flow’r of all,
His fragrance everywhere.
There Christ, the lovely Savior,
Cut down and laid away,
Rose from His scented sepulcher
And blooms to fadeless day.

Verse 2
Red was His blood as Sharon’s rose,
The Prince and Savior crucified;
But kings cannot their wealth compare
To those enriched by Calvary’s tide!
The lilies of the valley deep
In royalty so bright arrayed
Cannot the purity reflect
By God’s own Son so clear displayed.

Verse 3
“‘Tis suff’ring first, them glory comes!
The sacred Scriptures do record.
The flow’rs to bloom eternally
Must die like Christ, the Lord!
Partaking of His sweetness free,
His holy incense to impart,
In garden close by Calvary’s hill
Be often found, dear one, apart.
